ABOUT BOOT ROOM 801
Boot Room 801 began as a podcast created by Giles and Kayla Sims to share their perspective as Utah soccer supporters. As the project grew, so did the way we wanted to tell those stories. Giles expanded into photography and videography, while Giles and Kayla began writing features, match coverage, and stories from around the local soccer community. Linda Sims has also joined the team as a photographer and videographer, helping Boot Room 801 capture the people, atmosphere, and moments that make soccer in the 801 special. What started as a conversation between supporters is becoming an independent media outlet built to document Utah soccer from the field, the stands, and everywhere in between.
Utah Royals head coach Jimmy Coenraets speaks with the media following Utah’s match against Gotham FC at America First Field. Coenraets reflects on the Royals’ missed opportunities during a strong opening stretch, explaining that Utah needed to capitalize on its momentum and finish the chances it created before Gotham began to take control. He also discusses how the team responded when the match shifted, the importance of remaining composed through difficult moments, and why the Royals cannot allow officiating decisions or the opponent’s experience to disrupt their approach. “Don’t panic. Don’t get disturbed by anything that’s happening.” Coenraets says the focus now is understanding what went wrong, both individually and collectively, while continuing to work rather than overreacting to the result.
